FAQ

When should I book my birth story session?

It’s best to book as early as possible—ideally in your second trimester—so I can ensure availability around your due date. Since birth is unpredictable, I take on a limited number of births each month to ensure I can be on call for you.

How do you handle being on call for a birth?

Once you’re within your on-call window, I keep my schedule flexible, my phone on loud, and my gear packed and ready to go at all times. If you think labor is starting, just send me a quick update—even if it’s a false alarm!

How long will you stay after birth?

I typically stay 1-2 hours after birth to capture those first golden moments—skin-to-skin, first feedings, the emotional first glances between parents and baby, and any special traditions or moments you want to be documented.

Can I choose which moments I want documented?

Absolutely. We’ll discuss your comfort level beforehand and create a plan that honors your wishes. Some families want every detail captured, while others prefer a more modest approach. This is your story, and I’ll document it in a way that feels right for you.

Do you offer birth films as well as photos?

Yes! I offer both photography and videography. A birth film allows you to relive the sounds, movement, and raw emotion of the day. You can choose a film-only session or a hybrid package that includes both photo and video coverage.

Will my birth photos be shared publicly?

Your privacy is a top priority. I will only share images or films with your explicit permission. Before your session, we’ll go over what you’re comfortable with—whether that’s keeping everything private, sharing only certain moments, or allowing full storytelling.

How long does it take to receive my birth story gallery or film?

Your birth gallery will typically be delivered within 5-8 weeks (Usually a lot sooner), with sneak peeks sent within the first few days. Films may take a bit longer due to the editing process, but I promise—it’s worth the wait.

What if I go into labor early or late?

I’m on call 24/7 starting at 38 weeks (or earlier if you have a history of early labor). Since birth is unpredictable, I plan accordingly and will be ready when you need me. If labor begins earlier than expected, just reach out as soon as possible, and I’ll do my best to be there.

Will you use flash during labor and birth?

I use available light as much as possible to maintain a quiet, undisturbed atmosphere. However, in very low-light situations, I may use a gentle, strategically placed flash (or another gentle light source) to ensure quality images while keeping the environment calm and unobtrusive.

What if my birth ends in an emergency C-section?

Every birth story is unique, and I am committed to capturing your journey, no matter how it unfolds. If I am allowed in the operating room, I will document as much as possible. If not, I will be ready to capture the first moments of connection once you are out of surgery.

What if I don’t want photos of the actual birth?

That’s completely okay! Some families prefer to focus on labor and post-birth bonding moments rather than crowning or delivery. We’ll tailor your session to reflect what you want to remember.

What happens if you miss the birth?

Birth is unpredictable, and while I do everything I can to be there, sometimes things move too quickly. If I miss the birth due to circumstances beyond our control, we can shift to a fresh postpartum session to capture those early moments with your baby.

What should I do when I go into labor?

Text or call me as soon as labor is confirmed. Even if it’s early labor, keeping me in the loop allows me to prepare. Once things progress, I’ll be on my way!

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! I know birth photography and videography is an investment, so I offer flexible payment plans to make it accessible. Let’s chat about what works for you.
