Before I became a boudoir photographer- trying every genre until I found my niche- I was always most comfortable shooting in the outdoors. I was mastering the art of using natural light to my advantage. I absolutely loathed shooting indoors because I felt like I could never get the hang of using artificial lighting and there never seemed to be enough window light to illuminate the room to my liking.

Due to the sensitive, private nature of boudoir photography, I had to adapt fast to shooting inside. After a few years making this the only style I shoot, I've become accustomed to using the indoors be it a luxury Airbnb, hotel suit or even in my client's homes. You could say sessions outside were becoming few and far between. However, every now and then I will get a brave soul who's ready to become one with nature- embracing wild and awakening their inner earth goddess.

Anytime I have the opportunity to shoot in nature, I jump on it real quick. Outdoor sessions will always be my jam. Since being back in the boudoir grind, I've been on the hunt for new, secluded locations. Trust me when I say that in the backwoods of Eastern, Kentucky, those are hard to come by.

One evening in early July, one of my ambassadors went with me to scout some spots. We started off at the spillway side of Grayson Lake and ended at a pull off around Deer Creek. We weren't sure what to expect being the middle of summer and during a pandemic to boot (yay 2020 for all these surprises). We were happy to find there wasn't hardly anyone out so it made for the perfect opportunity for an impromptu, golden hour 'trial' session.

I have to say, this is probably one of my favorite sessions to date because we hit the gold mine in whimsical, boho-y locations. Trees, water and the warm kiss of the evening sun made for the perfect combo. Emily was absolutely radiating and we had such a fun time. I'd say the highlight of the evening was Emily's recovery from falling down the hill in our 3rd spot. Out of nowhere, she lost her footing and grabbed hold of the nearest tree and did what looked like a stripper pole special. I only wish we could have got it on camera. I swear we laughed forever after that.
